Brief Intinerary:

Day 1: Saigon-My Tho (or Ben Tre/Cai Be) –Can Tho (Overnight in Can Tho, Capital city of Mekong Delta)

Day 2: Can Tho-Floating Market- Chau Doc (Tra Su Cajuput Forest- Fish Farm-Cham Village)

Day 3: Chau Doc-Speedboat to Phnom Penh, Capital of Cambodia

Chau Doc, a small town nestled within Vietnam’s An Giang Province and positioned approximately 230 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, boasts a scenic setting along the Mekong River, next to Sam mountain and adjacent to the Cambodian border. Notable landmarks in this include Sam Mountain, the Lady Temple, Tay An Pagoda, Tra Su Cajuput Forest, Floating Fish Farm, Cham Village, and several Muslim Mosques.

It’s a common starting/finishing point for speedboat trips from/to Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

If you journey from Phnom Penh, Cambodia to Vietnam by speedboat, you will arrive in Chau Doc first. Here, you can explore several prominent attractions as above mentioned, and spend a night before continuing your exploration to various provinces within the Mekong Delta. The journey then leads you to Ho Chi Minh City, a gateway to the broader expanse of Vietnam.

Crossing the Border: The speedboat journey will involve crossing the border between the two countries. The Vinh Xuong/Kaam Samnor Border Crossing connects An Giang Province in Vietnam with Kandal Province in Cambodia. Make sure you have all the necessary travel documents, such as a valid passport, visa for Cambodia (if required), and any other documentation that might be requested during the border crossing.

Mekong River Journey: The journey along the Mekong River can take several hours (5-6 hours) , depending on the route and conditions. The speedboat will pass through scenic landscapes along the way.

Arrival in Phnom Penh: The speedboat should arrive at the Sisowath Quay area in Phnom Penh. This is a popular tourist area with various accommodations, restaurants, and attractions nearby.

* Note: The Sisowath Quay in Phnom Penh is conveniently within a walking distance to Watt Phnom, one of the key attractions in the capital. On a previous occasion, I had booked an express boat trip from Phnom Penh to Chau Doc. Upon arriving at the Boat Station ahead of schedule, I securely stored my heavy luggage at its ticket office, then take a leisurely stroll to explore Watt Phnom for a while before the boat’s departure.

After completing all formalities, you can continue your journey to your destinations in Cambodia, such as Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and other cities.
